What Happens Next?

We have a chat!

And how we do that is up to you. We can grab a coffee, SKYPE, natter on the phone - we’ve done projects entirely over email. Whatever’s best for you. Don’t worry if you’re unsure exactly what sort of animation you’d like, to start off with we’ll just talk about broad issues like roughly how long it/they should be. Something that can be really helpful in the early stages is to show each other some examples. Maybe you’ve seen a TV advert or video online which has the sort of look you’re after. Maybe you’ve seen something you think is terrible - that kind of reference point can be just as useful!

Once we’ve discussed duration and style, we’ll talk about its final destination. Whether your animation is to end up on TV, online, or at an event will have some bearing on how we make it.

When it comes to the creative side of things, DBM can have as much or as little input as required. Sometimes people will already have a storyboard drawn up and our sole responsibility is the actual animation work. More often though, we’ll either be asked to come up with the narrative or to collaborate in putting one together.

With a few details like those ironed out, we’ll be able to let you know how much it will cost and how long it will take to make.

Animation Process

We’ll spend the first few days of production making the characters, drawing the backgrounds and creating all the other assets that will make up your animation. It takes longer than if we just used stock templates but we believe your animation should be truly bespoke so it’s time well spent.

Don't expect to see too many 'work in progress' clips. Making and sending over excerpts is quite time-consuming and that time is often better spent getting on with the actual animating. That said, we may send you some stills from the video if there's anything we think you may want to check out.

Because everything we make is broadcast quality, even the shortest animations mean BIG video files. So when it comes to showing you your finished animation we’ll usually upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and set it to private so no one else can access it. This means you can watch it on your phone, tablet, monitor or TV - anything with Internet access. We’re sure you’ll be very happy but if there’s anything that needs tweaking, just let us know, we’ll make the amendments and send you an updated version. Only when you are 100% satisfied will we send you the actual video file using WeTransfer (an email-based file transfer service).

Our involvement doesn’t end with the delivery of your animation as we want you to get the most value possible from it. So, for example, if your video is destined for social media, we’ve got loads of helpful material we can give you to help get it online and shared. We’re very proud of everything we make so, with your approval, we may well share it with our followers too.
